Build a photo set that shows the roof, the component, the condition, and the measurement.

The short answer

Useful inspection photos pair an overview with detailed images of the relevant component or condition. Measurements and clear file organization help the reviewer connect those photos to the estimate.

Show the whole property and roof

Begin with elevations and roof overviews that establish location and context. Capture relevant structures and access conditions. Organize images so someone who has never visited the property can understand which roof and slope they are reviewing.

Show the detail behind the request

Document existing flashings, drip edge, accessories, layers, decking conditions, and damage when visible and relevant. Include measurements and roof pitch information where needed. An isolated close-up can be difficult to interpret; pair it with a wider image that locates the detail.

Make the photos usable by the office

Label or group photos by slope, component, or location. Put them in the job file with the estimate and measurements. Capture actual conditions through your trained team’s inspection process; never alter a condition simply to create evidence. Photos support review but do not establish coverage or guarantee an approval.

Your next-file checklist

  • Elevation and slope overviews
  • Component and condition close-ups
  • Measurements connected to requested quantities
  • Clear labels and organized uploads
